Fattoria La Valentina, the History
It all started in 1990 when Sabatino’s father and the brothers Roberto & Andrea decided to buy this winery and start making a difference with the production of authentic wines. Step by step, learning from nature and by each harvest the Valentina has become a well known and established winery, producing award winning wines.

Vines & Terroir of the Spoltore area
The winery has got 2 vineyards, one located in the Spoltore are where also the cellar is located. This area is very close to the coast and the vines are on a hill between 150 to 200 meters above the sea level. This terroir gives more elegance to the wines compared to the vineyards located in San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore at the feet of the Maiella mountain. At an altitude between 300 & 400 meters, a completely different climate conditions that give wines a more richness in terms of flavours and aromas.
The philosophy
Sabatino tells to Experience BellaVita “the goal is to have wines that really respect the characteristics of the land where the vines are planted and that they are unique, original and if good better. But first I want that la Valentina wines are really original”.
Their high-quality wines come from the continuous commitment to respect nature, by listening and learning from it each day. Thus, each of their vintages is a true & natural expression & combination of the land and the climate…Wines with a distinctive and an Original character, are La Valentina.
La Valentina Wine List
They only produce the 3 most important local varieties: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Trebbiano and Pecorino. There are currently 4 lines:
- Classica: Trebbiano, Cerasuolo & Montepulciano
- Spelt: Riserva and Superiore wines. Spelt Montepulciano Riserva, ageing 18 months, part in 500 litres barrel and part in 25 hectolitre barrel (only older vintages, when ready are sold to the market – 50.000 bottles produced); Cerasuolo superiore (unfiltered) and Trebbiano Superiore (ageing in concrete) 6000 bottles only for Trebbiano and Cerasuolo
- Terroir: the brother of Binomio coming from the vineyards around the cellar in Spoltore. The whole vinification take place in wood with spontaneous fermentations and without temperature control. The curious fact is that after the fermentation, the wine takes different routes, ageing part in the vinification barrel, part in tonneau, part in barrique and part in concreate, before being united again for the bottling.
- Binomio: La Valentina’s Cru, coming from the San Valentino vineyard, a 4 hectare small vineyard made of 47 years old vines. The vines come from a very rare historical clone of Montepulciano that due to its low productivity has been abandoned in the years. They are one of the wineries of Abruzzo, making a wine with 100% grapes from this clone, limited production of no more that 12.000 bottles. The wine does 20/25 days macerations with the skins and rest for 18 months in barrique and then bottled unfiltered.
