History of the Tartagla’s Winery

“From early childhood I observed men return home with their shoulders covered with dust and sweat, after a hard day’s work in the fields, in the vineyards and in the olive fields. Despite the fatigue, my grandparents always had faces full of dignity and satisfaction, knowing that with their sacrifices They had allowed their children and grandchildren to have a better quality of life then theirs, as their parents and grandparents had done for them.”

This is the reason, inspired Nic to go back to its roots and invest on the family heritage. The family for 5 generations has always been producing grapes that they would sell. In 2015, Nic decided to take on the family vineyards and opened his winery.

Vines & Terroir of the Alanno area

The Alanno area is a fantastic are for winemaking, Nic’s vineyards have a 360 view starting from south with the Maiella, west overlooking the Morrone, north with the Gran Sasso and on clear days you can see the sea to the east.

The wind from the mountains and the sea make sure the grapes are kept healthy and less prone to illnesses, thus reducing the amount of yearly treatments.

The philosophy

Producing authentic wines and trying to have the least impact as possible on vineyards and wines.

Tartaglia Wine List

  • Starting from the entry line, that includes: Trebbiano, Pecorino, Cerasuolo & Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC
  • Pecorino, Chardonnay & Cabernet Colli Pescaresi IGT
  • Io – Selva delle Mura: Selection of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, that ages at least 15 months in Barrique and 12 mesi in bottle.

Nic has got in stock different vintages starting from 2015 and I strongly suggest to try the older vintages. I also really loved his Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo 2019.
